Congregational Gardens
Our Contra Costa County Jewish memorial park called Gan Shalom is nestled on 82 acres among regional parklands in the Briones open space. Serving the entire spectrum of the Jewish community, our nonprofit cemetery offers gardens for interfaith families, cremations, traditional ground burials, family sections, and perinatal losses. Congregational sections include Beth Chaim, B'nai Shalom, Netivot Shalom, B'nai Tikvah, Tel Shalom Burial Association, Temple Isaiah and Temple Beth Abraham. Additional (gamin) gardens include Gan Meshach (Family) for infant losses; an Orthodox garden, Gan Emunah (Faith), a Conservative garden, Gan Racham (Compassion) and a Reform garden, Gan Olam (World). An on-site chapel accommodates up to 75-guests. To ensure the grace and simplicity of the cemetery, only flush with the ground memorial markers are used. Gan Shalom is a scenic 20-minute drive from the Orinda BART station and is open for visitors and mourners between 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday; 10am to 3pm on Sunday but closed on Saturdays and Jewish and federal holidays.
Our Alameda County Jewish memorial park called Home of Eternity Cemetery & Mausoleum is adjacent to Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland. The cemetery opened in 1865 when 2 acres of land were purchased from Mountain View. A mausoleum was added in 1938. This memorial park serves the entire spectrum of the Jewish community with traditional ground burials, mausoleum entombments, cremation niches, upright monuments, flush grave markers and memorial benches. Home of Eternity is accessible through the front gate of the historic Mountain View Cemetery. An on-site chapel can accommodate up to 150-guests. Open from 10am to 3pm everyday but closed on Saturdays and Jewish and secular holidays.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
