Food Bank of the Southern Tier (hunger relief)
The Food Bank acquires and distributes food to over 160 partner agencies and also operates two direct service programs: the BackPack Program and the Mobile Food Pantry.
BackPack Program
The BackPack Program distributes food to children at risk of hunger, over weekend and holiday breaks, when free/reduced price school meals are not available. The program currently operates in 19 of the 41 school districts throughout our six-county serivice area, service over 1,300 children. Phase II of our capital campaign program includes a fundraising initiative to provide enough funding to expand the program to all 41 school districts.
Mobile Food Pantry Program
The Mobile Food Pantry Program consists of two converted 35' beverage trucks that deliver fresh produce, dairy products, and other food and grocery items directly to rural and high-need areas of our six-county service region. Two mobile food pantry trucks distribut about 2.5 million pounds of food annually.
