What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Women and Children Emergency Shelter

Each year, over 115 women and children call our emergency shelters on Grant Street home. Our multi two-story brick buildings offer a safe, nurturing, drug and alcohol-free environment for women and children in crisis.

To stabilize each family, we don’t just address select areas; instead, we focus on the family as a whole by giving them the tools needed for a successful return as thriving and self-sufficient living.

Our caring and compassionate social services team works closely with each family, providing job search assistance, counseling, connections to childcare and medical services, household budget planning, and housing assistance.

Population(s) Served

Families and individuals transitioning to permanent housing receive lodging, supportive services, workshops, emotional support, case management, 24-hour security, recreational activities, and education to ensure a successful transition.

Population(s) Served

The Apostles' House Food Pantry is a major resource for many food insecure and economically challenged individuals and families in Newark, New Jersey. To meet the demand for food and other essential items, our doors are open three days weekly, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM.

Population(s) Served

Mothers residing in our shelters and transitional house have the opportunity to receive job skills training for certificate occupations such as nurse’s assistant, CDL driver, phlebotomist, security officer, and cosmetologist as a means to maintain independent living.
