What we aim to solve
Currently we are addressing the Covid -19 pandemic. Our sit down meals have transformed to take out meals and are growing in numbers from week to week. We are working to address the additional cost of social distancing devises, personal protection materials for our volunteers and guest requiring them. As well as the cost of purchasing proper containers to assure the safe transport of these meals.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Community Kitchens of northeastern Connecticut provides healthy and nutritious meals to all who come through our doors. We are committed to improving the quality of life, restoring the dignity of those we serve and ending food insecurity in our community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We feed the body and the soul. Our meals have become communities of support for our guests, addressing the basic human need for companionship, socialization, and emotional solace providing resources for those in pursuit of self-sufficiency.
We develop a community of volunteers by inspiring them with the cause. We stay connected, and make sure your communication channels go both ways. The benefits of volunteering are countless.
We partner with other agencies, retail stores, and organizations to keep costs at a minimum.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our partnership with grocery stores involves the grocery store donating their dated product, which we can use immediately and we provide them with an annual donation receipt. A win win for everyone, we obtain free food, the grocery stores get the deduction and the food stays out of the dumpster.
Our partnership with our host agencies and volunteers provide a welcoming environment and welcome agencies that offer resources to those in need.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We successfully provide a nutritious meal to all who enter 52 weeks a year. Guided people to an improved quality life . Some have come back to volunteer, one opened a pizza house and provides pizza once a month at one of our sites. What's next wasn't part of the original plan. Helping our communities to get to the other side of this pandemic. We've transitioned our sit down meals to a take out meal with additional groceries to take home. We have delivered to those who are quarantined. Like everyone else we are adopting to the situation one day at a time.
