Mission

To enrich the cultural life of the Capital Region and beyond by offering a diverse range of locally sourced live theater created by professionally minded artists, providing the opportunity for exciting and rewarding participation in all aspects of theater to the community. The Vision: 1. To present diverse, year-round programming in a variety of spaces, including our own flexible space. 2. To cultivate civic pride and tradition in our community-based organization. 3. To be recognized nationally as the region’s center for locally sourced live theater. 4. To provide emerging artists the opportunity to have their work seen by the public through competitions, festivals and workshops. 5. To offer a theater arts education program for all ages which meets the changing needs of our community.

Mainstage Season

Home Made Theater is in residence at the Spa Little Theater in the Saratoga Spa State Park. HMT was incorporated in 1985, and founded by Jonathan Foster and Susan Miller. Throughout our history we have gained a reputation for presenting professional quality community theater

Each December HMT presents a theater for families production that allows families to experience theater together as both participants and audience members.

Children and youth

Each year, HMT offers acting classes for children and teens ages 7 to 18. Some typical classes include: Play Acting, Discovering Theater, Creative Acting, Elements of Acting, Exploring Drama, Scene Study, Improvisation and Audition Prep. Classes are held at the Spa Little Theater in the Saratoga Spa State Park.

The HMT Conservatory program gives kids an exciting, creative and supportive environment in which to experience the thrill and exhilaration of performing on the main stage. All students who register are cast in the production that is performed in the Spa Little Theater. Performances are open to friends, family, and the general public. No experience is necessary and children of all levels are welcome.

HMT to Go was founded in HMT’s 11th season as a touring troupe that brought educational and entertaining material to schools. In honor of their 35th season, HMT to Go is being reinvented to bring live theater to new audiences by performing in venues other than HMT’s home at the Spa Little Theater.
