Mission

IN ALL OF OUR DEVELOPMENT AND RECONCILIATION ACTIVITIES, OUR AIM IS TO EQUIP AND EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES FOR POSITIVE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION THROUGH REPRODUCIBLE INITIATIVES THAT PRIORITIZE LOCAL PARTICIPATION, RESOURCES AND CULTURAL STRENGTHS. OUR OVERARCHING GOAL IS TO EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY AND MISUNDERSTANDING. TWO KEY WAYS WE DO THIS ARE THROUGH BUILDING HOPE (HELPING PEOPLE SEE THE WAY FORWARD), AND BUILDING TRUST (ENSURING SUPPORT FOR THOSE SEEKING A BETTER FUTURE).

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS: IN 2019 DOULOS HAS CONTINUED OUR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF MAURITANIA, BUT STILL SIGNIFICANTLY SCALED DOWN, DUE TO FACTORS OUTLINED IN OUR REPORT OF 2016. PROGRAMS CONTINUING FROM 2017 AND INTO 2019 INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR A SCHOOL IN AN UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITY, PROVIDING EXPERT ADVICE TO INDIGENOUS MAURITANIAN NGOS, COORDINATION OF SOME SMALL SCALE HUMANITARIAN AID AND OTHER SMALL PROJECTS.

NOTABLE ACTIVITIES IN THIS AREA IN 2019 INCLUDED PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS BOTH IN PERSON AND VIRTUALLY THROUGH THE INTERNET. WE ALSO CONTINUED WITH ONGOING, BEHIND-THE-SCENES, QUIET WORK WITH MUSLIM, CHRISTIAN AND JEWISH LEADERS AROUND THE WORLD, PUBLIC SPEAKING AT CHRISTIAN CONFERENCES ON ISLAM, AND SCHOLARLY RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION IN SUPPORT OF THESE EFFORTS.
