United Cerebral Palsy of Northern, Central and Southern New Jersey, Inc.

For over 20 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Northern, Central and Southern New Jersey, Inc. (UCP) has provided innovative, quality services to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities of all ages and their families. UCP is committed to providing the whole family, parents, siblings and individuals with disabilities with opportunities for optimal self-directed and community integrated services. UCP strives to be an organization that provides services that are individualized, creative, and responsive to the needs of the individuals served by the agency.

United Cerebral Palsy of Northern, Central, and Southern New Jersey, Inc. began in 1985 as a service committee of UCPNJ started by a group of committed parents seeking innovative services for their children that were not available in the community. For two years, the Tri-County Unit (service committee) worked with families to identify needs and developed programs to support families in Morris, Somerset and Hunterdon counties. In September 1987, UCP of Morris/Somerset incorporated as an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable health services organization. On February 16, 2006, UCP filed a corporate name change, changing it’s name to United Cerebral Palsy of Northern, Central and Southern New Jersey, Inc., reflecting the agency’s growth and expanding service areas through out the State of New Jersey.

Through the past 21 years UCP had been driven by an unvarying dedication to making a difference in the community for families and creating a "life without limits for people with disabilities." The mission of UCP is to advance the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of people with disabilities. This mission is realized through a variety of innovative services and programs that meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families.

Services currently provided by UCP include family support, respite, recreation, residential care, cash subsidies, personal assistance, skill development, community education, supported employment and affordable housing. These services are currently provided in thirteen counties throughout the State of New Jersey (Morris, Somerset, Hunterdon, Warren, Sussex, Middlesex, Union, Essex, Passaic, Bergen, Mercer, Monmouth and Hudson Counties). Services are provided to approximately 3,000 families and individuals with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, spinal bifida, mental retardation, autism, muscular dystrophy, seizure disorders, epilepsy, head, neck, spinal cord injury, etc.
