Mission

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage will provide food, shelter and medical care to rescued cats and dogs for the purpose of returning them to their owners or finding them suitable, permanent new homes. Our programs include: • Animal shelter and adoption center • Mandatory spay & neuter • Barn cat program • Volunteer opportunities • Foster care • Humane education classes • Pets for Vets • Seniors for Seniors • Quarterly Food Pantry We believe that every animal has the right home and family waiting for them. Our goal is to operate to meet or exceed a 90% live outcome rate (no-kill). We strive to be an exemplary shelter and adoption center through collaborative partnerships, responsible business practices, and exceptional customer service.

Notes from the nonprofit

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage (VAO) is the Municipal Animal for 22 towns in southern NJ. That means the VAO will provide and care for any stray or surrendered cat or dog from any one of those towns! We are an open-intake shelter that strives to meet a live release rate of 90% or better (aka, “No Kill”). We do not discriminate against any breed, nor do we turn an animal away due to medical conditions or age. Each and every animal in our shelter receives individual consideration and attention. We are also an Adoption Center and when space allows, we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. In 2018 we were able to save the lives of over 1,800 cats and dogs and we have saved over 30,000 lives since our inception in 1988! Although the VAO serves almost half of Camden County, we do not receive operational or financial support from the county. We receive no state or federal funding either. We are grateful for every penny we receive from supporters
