Long-term care

Sitrin was established as a long-term care facility in 1951. In 2009, Sitrin replaced its traditional institutional setting with 9 Cape Cod-style long-term care homes for 110 residents. The homes have private bedrooms & bathrooms for each resident, living rooms with large picture windows, fireplaces, kitchens, heated floors, family-style dining rooms, covered, heated walkways & a large community center building for special events & activities.
Sitrin is committed to providing the best care possible for residents. At the heart of this commitment is Sitrin's skilled nursing staff; they are dedicated professionals who deliver compassionate care to residents in a safe, homelike environment.
Sitrin's long-term care homes are part of its medical rehabilitation facilities. Therefore, Sitrin is able to provide residents with a broader range of therapy services, minimizing the need for hospital care, resulting in less disruption of daily life, higher degree of comfort, and greater peace of min

Cedarbrook Village, Inc., is an Enriched Housing and Assisted Living Facility for adults 62 years of age and older. Cedarbrook is located on Sitrin's scenic campus where residents enjoy all the benefits of living at home without the worries of home maintenance. The attractively-designed community offers a host of amenities, including 44 one- and two-bedroom apartments, restaurant-style dining, balcony and outdoor terrace, large community room, internet cafe, parlor (which can be reserved for small gatherings), lobby/sitting area with dual-sided stone fireplace, and beauty parlor.

As a licensed assisted living provider regulated by the New York State Department of Health, Cedarbrook offers 24-hour onsite staff, emergency call system, case management services, home health aide and nursing services, consulting dietician, housekeeping and laundry services, scheduled medical transportation, and assistance with medical appointments and medications.

Sitrin's inpatient medical rehabilitation unit was designed with patients and visitors in mind. This state-of-the-art medical rehabilitation facility features 46 private rooms for post-acute medical rehabilitation patients, including those with severe physical impairments, neuromuscular conditions, and health problems due to obesity and heart disease.

Its comprehensive rehabilitative program is offered in a relaxing, hotel-like environment with amenities, including large private rooms and bathrooms, flat-screen televisions, miniature refrigerators, a large spa room, beautiful sitting areas with fireplaces, a large dining area and café, wireless internet, and a centrally-located patient/family solarium.

Sitrin uses cutting-edge technology in various areas to enhance a patient's overall experience, including an automated medication dispensing system, as well as electronic patient lift systems for those who require extra assistance transferring in and out of bed and to the bathroom.

Sitrin established the area's first Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility (CORF) in 1997 and has since helped thousands of people achieve their recovery goals. With a doctor's referral, Sitrin's rehabilitation team comprised of physical and occupational therapists thoroughly evaluates patients and develops individualized care plans based on their therapeutic needs. Sitrin's CORF includes a fully equipped gym and two heated in-ground therapy pools, providing a remarkable selection of outpatient rehabilitative care services. When appropriate, therapists utilize Sitrin's serene outdoor setting for patient exercises.

Additional services include the Equili-BRAIN-ium Concussion Management Program, pediatric therapy, speech/language pathology, medical nutrition therapy, podiatry, a dental clinic, psychology services, and a special Attention Deficit Syndrome Clinic, which offers diagnostic and treatment services for children ages 5 through 17.

The region's only health care facility to offer in-ground therapy pools, Sitrin's Aquatic Therapy Program is an effective treatment option for individuals with a variety of illnesses and conditions, including chronic back and joint pain, disabilities, rehabilitation following hip or knee replacement, asthma and other breathing disorders, obesity, fibromyalgia, arthritis, strokes, neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions, and post-traumatic stress.

Sitrin also provides a complete Wellness Program that is open to the community. Wellness classes include, Aqua Yoga, Ai Chi, Arthritis Program, Cardio Splash, Hydro Aerobics, Spin and Splash (Aqua Cycling using pool bikes), and Aqua Tots.

For nearly 50 years, Sitrin's Daytime Adult Program has been providing adults with opportunities to stay active and healthy. Participants engage in fun-filled activities that include cooking workshops, arts and crafts, live entertainment, theme celebrations, gardening, shopping, luncheons, and community outings while socializing with other members. Delicious meals and snacks are also provided.

Located within the Sitrin Health Care Center, the program offers both a social model and medical model where individuals receive medication administration, therapy sessions, and licensed nursing services, in addition to recreational activities with peers. Transportation is available to and from a person's home. Sitrin staff members assist individuals in their homes and with entering and exiting the vehicle, if necessary.

Sitrin's Daytime Adult Program makes it possible for persons to continue living at home while receiving the personal care, nutrition, and therapies they need.

Sitrin's NeuroCare Program is one of the nation's only long-term care programs for individuals with Huntington's Disease (HD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Located within the Sitrin Health Care Center, this dynamic 32-bed, long-term care unit, incorporates life-changing technology for residents and vital support services for families and caregivers. Sitrin provides higher staff-to-patient ratios, expert care for residents from highly trained staff who understand their needs and have the skills to provide for them, as well as individualized care plans specific to HD and ALS.

Employing a multidisciplinary approach to care, this program involves staff from nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietary/nutrition, therapeutic recreation, social services/case management and dental, as well as a behavioral specialist, full-time physicians, a consulting psychiatrist and a consulting respiratory therapist.

Sitrin's unique Military Program provides comprehensive, complimentary care to post-9/11 veterans and service members affected by post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, suicidal ideations, depression and anxiety, orthopedic diagnoses, individualized psychology services, and other combat-related conditions.

The program combines both traditional treatments such as one-on-one therapy with non-traditional treatments including Equine-Assisted Therapy, dance/movement therapy, aquatic therapy, Ecotherapy, nature outings, and more. Therapy and treatment options are personalized for each veteran based on military, combat and reintegration experiences. Sitrin also offers the Military Civilian Coalition, featuring interactive recreations with both veterans and civilians, including fly fishing, archery, hiking, therapeutic hand drumming, and more.

Sitrin offers and Annual Warrior Retreat for more than 100 veterans and families at Camp Sitrin.

Established in 2001, the Sitrin STARS (Success Through Adaptive Recreation and Sports) is an innovative adaptive sports program that provides individuals with physical disabilities opportunities to engage in a variety of sports on a recreational, competitive, and Paralympic basis. The STARS program builds quality of life in a very personal way. Through team effort, participants enjoy the support and camaraderie of their fellow athletes, building each other's morale through a rich matrix of shared experiences.

STARS offers the following wheelchair sports: basketball, curling, road racing, adaptive shooting and archery, as well as adaptive paddling, cross-country skiing and biathlon. STARS athletes have competed in numerous World Wheelchair Curling Championships, Paralympic Games, road races and marathons (Boston, New York City, London, Japan, Maine, Los Angeles), and Biathlon competitions, setting records and earning medals.
