Massachusetts Families Organizing for Change Inc

Leadership training for a world where everyone belongs.

Dedham, MA , MA   |  https://massfamilies.org

Mission

The mission of MassFamilies is to provide sustained advocacy and leadership training in pursuit of high quality, individualized community support and service options, including family support, for people with disabilities and their families. Members of MassFamilies have written and passed legislation to create statewide policy and practice for individual and family support. We are a statewide, grassroots coalition of individuals with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses and their families. We believe that supports for individuals and families can be more flexible and better designed to respond to the actual needs people have. We are actively organizing families and individuals to use the power of our numbers to effect positive change.

Family Leadership Series

Since 1990, MassFamlies has provided the Family Leadership Series to empower families and individuals to live and engage in their communities. MassFamilies hosted the first Family Leadership Series in Southeastern Massachusetts from October 1990 to March 1991. As a result of this successful leadership training, the Family Leadership Series is now sponsored annually in Massachusetts by the five regional chapters of MassFamilies: Central, Metro Boston, Northeast, Southeast and West.

The Family Leadership Series has a three-fold purpose:

1) Offer information about “best practices” for people with disabilities.
2) Assist families in creating a vision for their family member and a process to achieve the vision by incorporating that information.
3) Build advocacy and leadership skills to support family leaders to advocate to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities at the local, state, and national level.
