Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Animal abandonment and homelessness is a continuing challenge in every community, and is of special concern in Cape May County after the summer season when visitors leave, sometimes abandoning their pets. Inadiquate education leads some pet owners to neglect spay and neuter guidelines, resulting in the increased population of homeless and abandoned cats and dogs.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Animal Outreach
Animal Outreach offers many innovative programs to support its mission. It operates a no-kill policy shelter, taking in abandoned and discarded pets to find new permanent and responsible homes and a low-cost feline spay/neuter clinic. Included in its mission is public education and awareness campaigns through events and speaking engagements. Animal Outreach offers the opportunity for volunteers to reach out and "hug a pet" to make their stay at the shelter more enjoyable. They implement the ideals of animal preservation by way of creation of feral cat sanctuaries. The organization requires that all animals are altered before adoption. Micro chip technology is among one of the other priorities for the organization by implanting a Home Again microchip in each and every animal before it goes home. But most importantly, the organization is tirelessly committed to making homeless pets and families one.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
It is our goal to eliminate animal homelessness and abandonment, educate the community on the necessity and benefits of spaying or neutering their pet, and find permanent loving homes for abandoned animals.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy is to work closely with other community shelters to minimize costs on providing care and adoption services for homeless animals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We maintain an adoption center for cats and provide foster care for dogs. Our adoption center is staffed by one full time paid manager and over 25 community volunteers. Our organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
Our volunteers are dedicated to providing animal care as well as clerical and fundraising support. Our board and volunteers actively participate in animal advocy efforts in our community. We maintain relationships with local veterinarians and other shelters to provide mutual support in accomplishing our common goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since our inception in 1998, we placed hundreds of Cape May County's homeless cats and dogs into loving permanent homes. In 2014 we opened a brick and mortar facility that serves as an adoption center for cats. This upbeat and visitor-friendly center has increased our visibility in the community further enabling us to more easily fulfill our mission.
It is our goal to expand our adoption efforts to accommodate more animals annually as well as expand our community outreach efforts to provide expanded education on the benefit of spay and neuter and TNR (Trap Neuter Release) for community feral cats. We intend to expand our dog foster program to include more adoptable dogs and have considered the possibility of a cat cafe to further our community connection and highlight our adoptable animals.
