What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Family Bereavement Groups

The Alcove provides activity-based peer support groups for children ages 3-18 who have lost a loved one through death.

Population(s) Served

Supervised Visitation for clients of the Superior Court of Atlantic County.

Population(s) Served

In our community, we continue to see an increase in deaths occurring from violent and traumatic causes, in addition to deaths occurring from natural causes, such as cancer or heart disease.
We will be addressing this problem by bringing our service to children who cannot easily access our bereavement center due to poverty, lack of transportation or other factors.
Offering a program in the school setting circumvents the obstacles that many high- risk families confront.
To date, The Alcove is the only bereavement support center for children in Southern New Jersey. That leaves a huge gap in service to countless numbers of children who have lost loved ones. The Alcove recognizes the need and has responded by outreaching to schools where there are substantial amounts of children who have experienced a loss (many times violent and traumatic) and who are unable to attend group at our facility.

Population(s) Served

Tender Living Care- Provides peer Support for children who have a parent diagnosed with a life threatening illness.

Population(s) Served

Outreach to schools that have large numbers of students who are primary or secondary victims of crime.

Population(s) Served

Individual Therapy is provided for grief and loss and for individuals who are primary and secondary victims of crime.
