Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
By focusing on our core value of education, we envision a world where women and girls will have access to resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We believe access to education holds the key to improving the lives of women and girls around the world. Our programming strategies focus solely on helping women and girls achieve their full potential, which in turn improves the well being of families and communities - with an impact greater than any other anti-poverty intervention.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Soroptimist International of the Americas is a global organization of more than 26,000 women in 20 different countries, speaking in 6 different languages, all working together to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
In addition, Soroptimist sponsors LiveYourDream.org, our online volunteer organization with more than 80,000 supporters. This community connects people online to do volunteer work offline to expand our mission to reach a new audience.
Our global reach, the dedication of our members/volunteers, and our experienced staff work together to increase our collective impact.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have seen great success through the Live Your Dream Awards.
The Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania recently issued a case statement on the impact of the Live Your Dream Awards. This report indicated:
Programs to support women's education are intended to improve the quality of life for women, and pave the way for the next generation to experience improved outcomes as well. As the results of Soroptimist's annual research with women receiving the Live Your Dream Awards demonstrate, this program achieves demonstrable impact in each of those three areas – improving women's quality of life, increasing women's confidence, and yielding multiplier effects for other women and the next generation.
This impact cannot be taken for granted. Some investments in women's education and women's quality of life yield higher returns than others. The Live Your Dream Award is such a program. It has produced demonstrable results, yielding economic and social return for women, their families, communities and nations."
With greater financial resources, we will be able to extend this program to even more women, helping them to reclaim their dreams. We also hope to see similar results with Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls, our newest program that targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success.
