Fiscal Sponsorship

One of the Philadelphia City Fund’s roles is to serve as a fiscal sponsor. We are the only fiscal sponsor that conducts all of its work on behalf of Philadelphia City government.

As fiscal sponsor, the Philadelphia City Fund provides fiscal sponsorship for municipal initiatives, which allows City departments to raise funds and accept philanthropic support, while providing the assurance to funders that contributions are managed with integrity and accuracy.

In its role as grantmaker, the Philadelphia City Fund supports innovative projects led by both community groups and City offices. We administer two different grant programs: our Community Fund and our Innovation Fund.

The Philadelphia City Fund receives proceeds generated by the Philadelphia Marathon and uses those dollars to fund charitable community projects across the city through the Community Fund. Since 2014, this resource has benefitted Philadelphians across the region in many different ways.

We also use the fees generated by our work as a fiscal sponsor to invest in City projects through our Innovation Fund, designed to launch pilot initiatives that have the potential to improve the services and functions of municipal government.
