What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
First-time Homeownership
Lancaster Habitat for Humanity creates access to affordable homeownership for lower income families in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties. After building a home with volunteer support, Habitat sells the home at cost with a 0% interest mortgage to qualified low-income families. Donations from the community, proceeds from Habitat ReStore (retail building supply store) and recycled mortgages fund the cost of operations, supplies, and equipment.
To be eligible, families must complete an application during an open application period. They must demonstrate financial and housing need, willingness to partner with Habitat, and capacity to repay the no-interest loan over time. Habitat prepares partner families for the benefits and responsibilities of home-ownership by providing volunteer mentors and training on budgeting, mortgage and settlement, home maintenance, winterization, and simple repairs.
Habitat ReStore
Habitat ReStore is a social enterprise specializing in the recycling and resale of donated new and gently used building materials and supplies to the public. The purpose of ReStore is:
Provide additional funding to support affiliates' house-building goals.
Expand opportunities to serve a broader base of the low-income community by providing low-cost materials.
Provide good stewardship of sustainable resources in the community.
Volunteer Program
Volunteers are the heartbeat of Habitat. They keep construction costs down on our build sites through the donation of their time, as well as help to build strong, vibrant communities as they come together to work for a common social good. Volunteers also assist in operations at our ReStore.
