Museum Exhibits

Our exhibits offer a treasure trove of shared educational experiences that delight parents and kids alike. All of the exhibits at Hands-on House are custom-designed and appropriate for children ages 2-10 years old. Each exhibit has a theme with a variety of activities to do that relate to the theme. All activities are designed for visitors to learn by doing and participating. Adults and children are encouraged to play and learn together.

Children explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) subjects in our Clubhouse classroom through hands-on lessons and activities. Current programs include Story Stretchers, STEAM Explorers, and Jump Start Classes. The Clubhouse also features self-guided theme-based activities every Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Discovery To Go outreach enrichment programs bring the museum into school classrooms throughout south central Pennsylvania. These exciting, action-packed programs involve activities designed for learning by doing. Each program incorporates a variety of unique hands-on activities that blend learning with having fun. Discovery To Go workshops are multi-disciplinary and can be integrated into many areas of classroom curricula for students in kindergarten through third grade.

Hands-on House’s Summer Camp is a popular program for children ages 4 to 7 living in or near Lancaster County. Campers engage in open-ended activities designed by the museum’s Education Director to construct, engineer, explore and experiment. Museum educators with teaching certificates lead each summer program session, and every camper is partnered with a teenaged volunteer to support and guide activities, creating an environment full of learning. Camp activities take place in the museum, Clubhouse, and outside in the play garden and meadow.
