What we aim to solve
WAEF serves the Wyomissing Area School District. In the 2020-2021 school year, - 36% of our students take part in the free & reduced lunch program. - 61 students are in the English Language Learners (ELL) program with 11 different native languages - Approximately 11% of our Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors, attend BCTC and are participating in 21 different programs. - 50% of the 2018 graduating class will be first generation college students. Ways that WAEF is helping meet the needs of today’s students: Last year, 1/3 of the grants awarded by WAEF were for STEAM or science related programs. WAEF offers 23 scholarships for graduating seniors to help fund their post-secondary education, 3 of which are for Trade & Technology programs. WAEF has 3 funds that help to cover expenses for social-emotional, extracurricular and leadership opportunities for students who need financial assistance. WAEF grants provide programming, equipment & assistance beyond what the WASD can provide.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of the Wyomissing Area Education Foundation is to support excellence in education in the Wyomissing Area School District by providing an enriching educational experience that expands the knowledge and maximizes the potential of every student.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Wyomissing Area Education Foundation seeks to fulfill its mission of enriching the educational experience in the Wyomissing Area School District and beyond through two primary areas of support: teacher and staff-requested grants for programs, projects and equipment and scholarships that reward academic achievement and other significant accomplishments.
To support its efforts, Wyomissing Area Education Foundation will engage the community in fundraising efforts through donation solicitations, events, endowment funds, and support through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Wyomissing Area Education Foundation supports the Wyomissing Area School District by allocating grants and scholarships to benefit current and graduating students. Our volunteer Board of Directors works closely with the full-time Executive Director and part-time Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper to raise funds and administer the grants.
The Executive Director collaborates with school administration and faculty to determine grant opportunities, and school staff then submits grant applications for review by the Executive Director as well as the Grants Committee. Volunteer Grants Committee members determine the fiduciary responsibility of allocation of funds.
Funds are raised through corporate and individual annual giving as well as special events and restricted gifts throughout the year.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since its founding in 1995, WAEF has awarded over $600,000 in grant awards in the Wyomissing Area School District. As the demographics have changed, the support for the foundation has increased in our community and our list of donors has grown substantially.
In the 2019-2020 school year, WAEF provided over $83,000 in grants to faculty and administration as a result of submitted applications. Grants ranged from student support for college or playground fees to STEAM equipment, library equipment, theater programming, science programming, and much more. In addition, over $40,500 was awarded in scholarships to 24 students and 1 adult re-entering education.
As the foundation has grown, so have the needs of the district. WAEF will continue to grow and adapt to meet those needs through collaboration between the Executive Director, Board, school administration and faculty.
