What we aim to solve

Lifewerks ~ "Life works where hope thrives" is our motto, and at the heart of our mission. We started out working with youth in various programs, and soon found that we needed to feed the body so that the mind can thrive, which began our hunger programs. Kids came to our programs and weren't able to functionally participate because they were hungry. This morphed into feeding their families as well, and supplying food to other organizations and schools not just for kids, but for seniors, and others economically struggling. Health problems, job insecurity and lack of knowledge of how to improve one's life cause increasing poverty, and lack of hope.

Lifewerks Programming & Methodology

Lifewerks feeds body, mind and soul through our food pantry and various programs. We offer hands-on training, using social media, our website, podcasts, internet radio & print to teach, inspire and give people a voice.

Our food pantry and resource center provide food and nutritional assistance and education to families, seniors, school children, college students and immigrants.

We provide students, community volunteers and community service participants with opportunities to learn how to serve their world and become vital community leaders. Lifewerks partners with local schools, colleges, fraternal and campus groups, Scouts, community volunteer groups and businesses.

We expose students to nonprofit best practices, interpreting community needs, creative problem solving, civil rights training and understanding cultural diversity.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Lacking the fundamentals of life such as food, clothing and shelter are huge, but finding hope is the key that will open opportunities and solve problems.

With hope comes creativity and the energy needed to find the way to life's goals.

We at Lifewerks strive to meet the needs of the whole person. We want to inspire people to conquer fear, negative circumstances and influences that hold them back.

We will continue our hunger programs, meeting the needs of our community.
We will seek to expand information and programs that will help our hunger clients with life skills, jobs, social services and education.
We will continue and expand our programs for youth to lay the groundwork for the future.

We are aligned with area colleges and a large segment of the public sector as a resource for our volunteers to staff our various programs. We are supported by numerous organizations, large and small, with volunteers and donations, both gift-in-kind and financial.

We have grown from a room full of kids writing and publishing a magazine, to one that has offered seminars, conferences, camps, classes and after school programs.

We started feeding kids with our programs from our inception in 1997, and in 2008 our food pantry became official. For many years we had a garden to provide fresh produce to suppliment what we could get donated, until we were able to source fresh produce elsewhere. At this time we are a member agency supported by federal and state funds. We continue to seek to suppliment those needs that we can't get from government sources from corporate and individual donations. We have been honored to be one of the first to receive the Philabundance Healthy Pantry award.

During Covid, hunger and related needs grew exponentially, and our feeding program grew along with that need. We made progress with supplying our hunger clients with not only food, but information about health and social services, jobs and job training, nutrition, community activities that were free or low cost, education opportunities, and more. We also sought to find sources for donations of non-food items to distribute to help our clients such as paper products, cleaning supplies, pet food, hygiene products.

In 2022 we expanded again, with a subsidiary endeavor, Fresh Radio US, which is now operating an internet radio station, and Soap Box Live, our school sponsored story telling program. More programs are in the works.
