Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Infinity Charter School strives to engage intellectually gifted children with an appropriate curriculum and social environment so they cannot coast through school and won't quit when they encounter difficult questions or problems. Infinity provides a learning space where teachers understand the unique needs of intellectually gifted students, students create friendships with other children who have similar abilities and interests. Students learn to work hard, fail, persevere, gain tenacity, and ask questions in order to tackle difficult problems now and through the rest of their lives.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Kindergarten to 8th Grade Education
Infinity Charter School (ICS) has a program based on authentic and individualized instruction created specifically for the gifted learner. ICS creates self-motivated, empowered students who are able to advance at their own pace in an inclusive environment that allows these amazing children to be themselves and feel they belong. The unique program provided by ICS allows students' talents to be fostered; they are challenged, and they are given the support needed to reach their full potentials.
--We are an independent K-8 school, part of the public school system.
--Our curriculum has been specifically designed to meet the needs of an otherwise under-served student population: academically and/or intellectually gifted children.
--These students account for 6-10% of the population and differ from typical students in terms of learning style, depth and complexity of understanding, and potential.
--This difference from the norm for their age group means that the education program for gifted students should be modified to meet their needs.
--We meet these needs by educating at the pace of each individual student and train our teachers to work with high-ability students.
--As part of the public school system, there is no cost to attend.
--ICS is inclusive to gifted students from all ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Infinity Charter School exists to:
1. Increase and improve pupil learning.
2. Ensure that each child meets or exceeds local, state, and national academic standards.
3. Increase appropriate learning opportunities for each child by providing full-time instruction geared to the unique needs and abilities of intellectually gifted children.
4. Provide ongoing professional opportunities for staff, including staff development in diverse and innovative teaching and assessment methods appropriate for intellectually gifted children, and to utilize different and innovative teaching and assessment methods for gifted education.
5. Prepare each child to be a lifelong learner.
6. Work with parents and students concerning the students' unique social-emotional needs.
7. Actively and consistently encourage parental involvement with public school education.
8. Provide parents and students with expanded choices in available public educational opportunities, which may result in the enrollment of children currently in home-schooling or private education settings.
9. Facilitate student service to, and involvement in the community, and blur the boundaries between school and community and actively promote the concept that the school and the community have mutual responsibilities to each other.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our philosophy requires teachers to use differentiated curriculum in math and language arts for each student, and instructional strategies to challenge students and encourage active participation in learning. Teachers use personal learning plans, project-based learning activities, multiple guest speakers, field trips, and other hands-on experimental learning activities that are appropriate to the topic and students' needs.
The curriculum is fast-paced and in-depth with little to no repetition. Teachers use a theme-based curriculum for instruction in science, history, social studies, and literature. Teachers update and form daily lessons around the theme. It is common for gifted learners to have specific interests into which they want to delve deeply. Themes and projects allow their interests to be met while remaining on track with a curriculum involving the entire class. Group projects are used to encourage collaboration and collective problem solving. Multi-aged classrooms allow for flexibility in creating classes and group dynamics within the classrooms that best meet the needs of individual learners. A second language, science, art, music, physical education, and guidance are taught from Kindergarten through eighth grades.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Infinity Charter School has successfully facilitated education for intellectually gifted children since 2003. Our school has grown from 58 to 256 students with a waiting list of children wanting to enroll.
Our school board engages members with extensive experience teaching gifted students, administrating gifted programs in public school settings, and parenting gifted children through public, private, charter, on-line, home, and cyber school options.
All of our teachers and para-professionals are certified teachers, and our director has held teaching and administrative roles in traditional public, private, and charter schools. Well over 100 parent volunteers take an active part in our educational process every year, and alumni from the school who are now high school and college graduates return to lend a hand.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Infinity Charter School has remained in the top tier of PA test scores for both traditional public schools and charter schools since our founding in 2003. The school has grown from 58 students in grades K-5 to 256 students in grades K-8. We have a good relationship with our chartering district, and continue to keep a waiting list of students who want to enroll in the school. In expanding our school, we have built a new facility. Our next steps are to make full use of our larger building and property by expanding our environmental and outdoor education, incorporating new STEAM activities into our curriculum themes, and expanding after school activities.
