Programs
- Publication Program- the Society of Biblical Literature publishes the Journal of Biblical Literature (JBL) and scholarly books in biblical studies and related disciplines; including monographs, dissertations, papers, translations, and reference works. Publishing policies are established by the Society's Research and Publications Committee, which seeks to address the needs of scholars and students in the field. - SBL Forum-is the online presence of the Society of Biblical Literature. The Forum features journalistic essays, interviews, and news of general and professional interest in biblical scholarshiannounces opportunities in the field of biblical studies and related disciplines, and provides access to digital resources. - Review of Biblical Literature (RBL) - offers timely scholarly reviews of books in biblical studies and related fields. Appearing in this digital form and in print, RBL offers the most comprehensive, international, and up-to-date source of reviews available in the field. The digital form is available to users without charge at the SBL website www.sbl-site.org .
- Congresses - the Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of biblical scholars in the world. Each meeting showcases the latest in biblical research, fosters collegial contacts, advances research, and focuses on issues of the profession. It hosts the world?s largest exhibit of books and digital resources for biblical studies. The International Meeting is held annually outside North America. It provides a unique forum for international scholars who are unable to attend the North American meeting. Meetings have been held in such places as Amsterdam, Budapest, Capetown, Copenhagen, Dublin, Heidelberg, Jerusalem, Krakow, Lausanne, Leuven, Melbourne, Munster, Rome, Salamanca, Sheffield, Strasbourg, and Vienna. - Research and Development - Technology that fosters biblical scholarship is developed and applied in collaboration with other organizations and includes the creation and distribution of standardized Hebrew, Greek, and Latin fonts; the development of computer-based tools for learning biblical languages; consultation on topic maps and hypertext markup languages for the Internet; and the digitization of manuscripts and books for biblical studies. - Professions - the Committee on the Status of Women in the Professions (CSWP) develop sessions, host meetings, and foster mentoring programs, as well as providing Travel Grants for women in the field. The Committee on Underrepresented Racial and Ethic Minorities in the Profession (CUREMP) meets each year at the Annual Meeting to discuss issues of relevance. - Travel Grants - are available to individuals in developing countries who are participating on the Annual Meeting program and need travel assistance. There are also travel grants for women provided through the CSWP.
- Awards - Regional Scholar Awards are presented at the Annual Meeting.
- Openings and Employment Information Service Center (EISC) - provide a place for those seeking employment to pursue a position. Openings is an online job listing for scholars in religion and the Employment Information Services Center provides a venue at the Annual Meeting for interviews and resume reviews.
