What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Litigation and Legal Advocacy
The ACLU of Colorado's Legal Department works to protect and defend civil liberties through legal actions as well as advocacy outside the courtroom. With only three full-time attorneys on staff, the ACLU also relies on the work of dedicated volunteer cooperating attorneys from around the state who are willing to donate their time and talent to assist our struggle for liberty.
Public Policy
The Public Policy Department is responsible for advancing the civil liberties agenda of the ACLU before the Colorado legislature, executive branch, as well as city, county and state governmental bodies. The work takes place through lobbying, working with staff of key policymakers, coalition building, legislative strategies, advocacy, and public education.
Communications and Outreach
A primary goal of the ACLU Foundation of Colorado is to educate citizens about their rights and freedoms, as well as to promote and enhance educational programs across the state. We offer, among other things: events, manuals, training, award programs, and youth development.
Our communication strategy helps to expand the impact of our Public Policy and Legal work, by utilizing traditional and social media to increase public awareness about ACLU issues and activities, including our Speakers Bureau, our Know Your Rights trainings, and Mobile Justice smartphone app.
