The Shelter provides short-term care for boys and girls from infancy to age 17 during periods of crisis in their lives. The Girls Home admits residents aged 9-17. Live-in house-parents maintain a home-like atmosphere, with many "family" activities. Residents attend public school and participate in community religious, social, and cultural activities. Professional counseling, tutoring, and other special services are provided as needed. We provide training in skills such as money management, housing and transportation, and job-seeking and job-holding skills to our residentsand other at-risk youth. Under a contract with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, we provide Transitional Living Services to help former foster children aged 18-21 with the problems of newly independent young adults. We also conduct a Workforce Investment Act Youth Program intended to put at-risk youth on the path to becoming procuctive members of the work force.
