What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Annual Green Corn Festival
Corn is an important part of Native American culture and life. The Green Corn Festival at IAIS celebrates the first ripening of the corn in August. The event centers on a dance troupe who preform traditional dances while educating the public on their meaning and significance to Native Culture. A traditional storyteller tells stories and educates visitors about the importance of storytelling to Native Peoples and culture. Visitors are also invited to sample native foods and make a craft to bring home.
Annual Maple Sugaring Festival
Each year as the days grow warmer but the nights remain cold the season for collecting Maple Sap to be turned into Maple Sugar begins. A local primitive technologist demonstrates the traditional technique used for collecting sap and boiling the sap to make maple syrup. The Museum serves pancakes with local maple syrup to visitors as they learn about native culture and the importance of Maple Sugar to Native Culture.
School Age Education Programming
The IAIS education department helps to ensure future generations have an understanding of and appreciation for Native American Cultures taught in an authentic and respectful manner. The programs focus on education of past life-ways and cultural continuity while confronting and addressing stereotypes.
