What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Paws4ever
Paws4ever is an animal welfare organization dedicated to creating and growing lifetime relationships between pets and people through adoption, training, education, and care. For more than fifty years Paws4ever has been saving lives and completing families in our local community, and our vision for the future is a world in which pets and people thrive together. Located on a beautiful 20-acre sanctuary in rural Orange County, North Carolina, Paws4ever offers an integrated approach to animal welfare and operates an animal rescue and adoption center, dog training facility, foster program, and Legacy Care program.
Paws4ever is committed to being actively antiracist and fostering a culture of equity in our organization and our community. We are an equal opportunity organization serving our community without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical or mental ability, or familial/marital status. Our vision is for a world in which pets and people thrive together, and such a world can only exist in the absence of racial discrimination and systemic injustice.
Adoption Center
Our Adoption Center serves as a placement partner for animals transferred from local county shelters, where the number of adoptable pets outpaces the space to house them. By partnering with county shelters, we are able to rescue those animals most in need, while also freeing up space at those shelters, alleviating the strain on county resources and reducing euthanasia rates. As a guaranteed-adoption facility, we commit to our animals for their lifetime, never euthanizing for space, and striving to find the best possible forever home for each dog and cat we shelter - no matter how long that takes.
Dog Training Program
Not only do we want to help our animals find forever homes, but we also provide pets and their owners with the tools they need to form relationships that are built to last. One of the ways we do this is through our Dog Training Program, which offers a comprehensive array of training opportunities to our local community. We don't just offer training to dogs adopted from Paws4ever; rather, we train dogs from all walks of life, including rescue dogs, purebreds, sport dogs, show dogs, therapy dogs, and more. We offer a wide range of both basic obedience and specialty group classes, as well as private lessons.
Legacy Care
Legacy Care is a unique membership program which allows pet owners to plan ahead for the care of their beloved pets. With few options for animal lovers to secure care for their pets upon their passing, many pets end up going to less-than-ideal caretakers or to county shelters. Legacy Care provides an ideal alternative where pets will enjoy a loving, cozy home environment and will receive the care they need. Not only are pet owners able to ensure their loved ones don't get left behind, but the program offers the added benefits of easing the burden on local shelters and allowing older individuals to adopt a pet without fearing it will be neglected when they can no longer provide care.
Foster Program
We care for animals through our foster program, allowing us to not only save and house more animals, but also provide them with additional socialization and enrichment.
