Mission

Our Mission Statement, as adopted by the Board of Directors is: To promote, encourage, and foster the Arts in Butler County. Our Vision is to: 1. Serve our local artists by providing them opportunities to share their talent and experience with others, to display and sell their work at professionally organized art exhibits offered free to the public, and to offer the opportunity to participate in high quality art classes and workshops; 2. Help both the elderly and the youth of Butler County develop their creativity, self esteem and self-confidence by introducing them to the Arts through creative, affordable learning experiences in a comfortable, inspiring, and safe environment; 3. Contribute to the well-being of our community by becoming a downtown Butler attraction and drawing visitors and community members to Main Street; and 4. Collaborate with other non-profit organizations working toward the betterment of the Butler County community in order to advance each organization's goals in an economically sustainable manner.

Art Education

Our art education program includes affordable after-school art classes, adult classes and workshops, and open mic nights for poets, musicians, and other art performance groups to hone their craft in a positive and safe environment. Descriptions and schedules of art education classes and workshops are available on our website at www.butlerartcenter.org. "My kids love coming to the Art Center. I love that both my 6-year old and my 10-year old can take a class together. The teacher does a great job of catering to their level and fostering their creativity." Kelly Dreher, Butler "What a great find the Art Center was for my family! I enrolled my son in a youth painting class and he loves it! Everyone is so friendly and helpful to him. It is so amazing to have a place like this in our community." Todd Nelson, Evans City "We found out about the Art Center when my 5-year old daughter took some free art classes. We were hooked and my daughter is now taking a Kids Painting Class. We found the teacher to be pleasant and the classes are affordable and well taught." Laura Hellar, Butler "The Arts Center has wonderful new programs for everyone to enjoy. The ceramics room rehab looks amazing and the new ceramics teacher, Anna Savage, is awesome - I've learned so much from her and made so many really nice pieces of art." Brenda Glasgow, Butler

The AABC hosts ten major art exhibits per year in the main Rittelmann Gallery, as well as many solo/group exhibits in the Members Gallery, the Mezzanine Gallery, the Members Gallery, and the Underground Galleries, offered free to the public. Our normal operating hours are noon to 6 PM Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 PM on Saturdays.

The AABC provides an open mic venue for artists, poets, musicians, and other arts performers to hone their craft in a positive, safe environment. Both the Rittelmann Gallery and the Underground Performance Space are used for musical performances on a regular basis that benefits the AABC and/or other non-profit organizations and charity fundraisers. In addition to open mic nights and monthly Band Nights, the AABC sponsors many music events such as: - Butler Cares' ""Open Hearts for Haiti"" Benefit Concert - An American Cancer Society Benefit Concert - The City of Butler's New Years Eve "Ring in the Arts" Concerts - AABC Fundraiser featuring the music of Harold Betters - AABC fundraiser featuring the music of the SRU Student Jazz Sextet and the SRU faculty jazz band In 2013, we opened our doors to the "Hobnob Theater" group who has begun providing intimate theatrical performances in our gallery space.

Population(s) Served

This year, we are expanding the in situ Sunnyview Nursing Home art classes to create a Senior Arts Program that will take place in the AABC Art Center in downtown Butler, PA. We are working with the city zoning officer to create a permanent loading zone (bus drop-off area) to accomodate the needs of the elderly in easily accessing the Art Center (once inside, ADA restrooms and other accessibility features are already in place).
