Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Adult Basic Education
Tutoring in basic skills, such as reading, writing, arithmetic and other skills required to function in society.
General Educational Development Test
One-to-one tutoring in the four subjects of the GED for adults who are seeking high school equivalency. Can be in-person or online.
English as a Second Language
One on one instruction or small class instruction at three levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced
Family Literacy
The Literacy Council teaches reading strategies to parents so they can read to, and with, their children. There is a large ESL component. Books are provided for families to build their home libraries.
Citizenship Test Preparation
Provide tutoring for Kern County residents who will be taking the United States Citizenship test. A walk-in class is available Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Online tutoring is also available.
