ANIMAL HEALTH FOUNDATION OF CALIFORNIA

From its inception, the Animal Health Foundation has provided financial help to clients with limited funds.The Angel Fund (a continuation of the original Animal Health Care Fund) is a cooperative venture between the Animal Health Foundation (AHF) and the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA) and its members. The fund assists pet owners in Los Angeles and Orange County, California, with veterinary care when paying for care is challenging or impossible.

From the generous bequest of Ms. Mary Edna Boydston, senior citizens and disabled persons residing in the Manhattan Beach/South Bay, California areas may be eligible for veterinary service support.  Qualifying individuals may receive annual awards of up to $500.

The Animal Health Foundation of California (AHF) collaborates with the Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF)(http://www.orangutanrepublik.org/programs/education-initiatives/orangutan-caring-scholarship-program) to support needy veterinary students in Aceh, Sumatra. The AHF provides scholarships within the OURF’s Orangutan Caring Scholarship program to students who might otherwise be unable to attend veterinary school. Since granting the first scholarship in 2006, twelve veterinary students have received four-year scholarships. The AHF funded four new five-year scholarships in 2011 covering the cost of tuition and the internship required to become a practicing veterinarian

The Wellness Veterinary Clinic was developed in 2016 to assist the pets of the homeless with basic veterinary care.  Our first clinic was held in June and the second in February, 2017.  Each clinic has served approximately 45 pets of the homeless.  We have just committed to implement 1 per month for the next 12 months and will then evaluate the program to consider adding services.  The Orange County DA's office and several department who help the homeless are in support of this program.
