Mission

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County is a charitable endowment to improve the quality of life for the citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations.

We receive gifts from people who care about the St. Joseph County community, we invest these gifts forever, and we use the investment earnings to make grants each year to local charities.

Individuals may also set up funds to benefit specific charities or to serve a field of charitable interest, such as the arts, educational scholarships, youth, or the environment. Several local corporations have set up funds as part of their strategy to support the local community.

Grant and Scholarship Programs

We build endowment through gifts from people who care about the future of St. Joseph County. We use the investment earnings to make grants each year to local charities, focusing on major initiatives in the areas of arts and culture, health and human services, community and economic development, youth and education, and parks and recreation.

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County has brought Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to St. Joseph County. Through this remarkable early childhood literacy program, any child from birth until their fifth birthday who lives in St. Joseph County can register to receive a FREE, new, age-appropriate book by mail once a month—no strings attached!
