Silverwood Elementary PTA
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Silverwood Elementary is recognized as one of Concord’s finest public elementary schools. State funding alone does not provide sufficient resources to deliver the quality of education Silverwood has historically provided. The Silverwood PTA works to create and fund programs that continue the standard of excellence our students deserve.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our involvement as a community of parents is a critical factor to ensure Silverwood continues to provide the resources, equipment and activities that our children deserve. Through fundraising and donations, the Silverwood PTA is able to continue to fund support and materials in the classrooms, as well as purchase equipment and activities outside of the classroom. The PTA provides exposure to the arts through art projects and events. PTA members also support the school directly through their volunteer efforts in a variety of areas – in the classroom, as technology gurus, and by helping to organize special programs & events for the students.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through parent involvement, volunteers and fundraising, Silverwood PTA is able to support, enrich and improve the experience for our students and teachers. At monthly PTA meetings parents are able to get involved in what the PTA is planning, sign up for volunteer positions, and have a vote in how funds are raised and distributed. The PTA sends fliers and communicates via email with parents to keep them apprised of all events and volunteer opportunities, as well as having a presence at all events including registrations days and kindergarten orientation.
The PTA is dedicated to supporting our teachers and staff. Through fundraising and volunteers we are able to offer a multitude of programs and resources. All teachers are able to request funds from the PTA to pay for STEM, art and reading materials for their classrooms. These strategies and implementations enrich the academic and cultural experience for all of our students and assist teachers in teaching the curriculum in up to date and accessible ways.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With a group of dedicated volunteers and parent and teacher involvement, the Silverwood PTA has made changes and improvements that positively impact our school. We have provided community events, activities for students, support and appreciation for teachers and fundraisers that make the achievements possible. The PTA has provided resources for students by way of books, technology and supplies in the classroom. With strong volunteers and proper funding, our PTA is capable of all this, and so much more.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The PTA has accomplished so much for our school. Readers Are Winners is a volunteer run and PTA funded program that rewards students for reaching their reading goals with free books that are carefully curated to be engaging and exciting at each reading level. The PTA covers the cost of buses to get our fifth graders to and from their outdoor education camp every year. The PTA has also helped to fund STEM projects, computers and library books.
We provide disaster kits for every classroom that are updated every year. We provide the funds for playground monitoring so that teachers can focus on teaching, and make use of breaks for classroom prep. Historically, our PTA has covered the cost of copy paper for homework and worksheets. We have volunteers who coordinate and communicate with room parents for each classroom so that teachers have parent support and parents are involved in what is going on in the classroom. We have hospitality volunteers that make sure our teachers and staff are recognized, appreciated and celebrated.
The PTA has organized campus beautification projects, including a tile mosaic made with tiles decorated by the students. The PTA hosts a Fall Fest every October that provides fun activities like Lego building and carnival games, community involvement with a K-9 police demonstration, karaoke and a never ending sno-cone station. We provide several family reading nights and family movie nights as a no cost activity for our community. We hold a Walk a Thon every fall to get the students excited about getting active. The money fifth graders raise in this fundraiser goes directly to their outdoor education fund.
Going forward, the PTA intends to continue this commitment to excellence. There are plans for a long overdue update of our library, further campus beautification, and more no cost activities for our community. In addition to these future plans, we will continue to provide the resources, materials, activities and support that our teachers and students have come to expect from their hardworking PTA.
