RESOLVE Inc
The National Infertility Association
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Access to care: The World Health Organization and the American Medical Association classify infertility as a disease. While many communities in the U.S. have infertility specialists to help treat the disease, the number one barrier to infertility treatment is cost. Support: Infertility is a life crisis for those diagnosed. Many people feel isolated by their diagnosis. Research shows that women who struggle with infertility face equal rates of depression as women with cancer. Education: Patients need an unbiased source of information about their diagnosis and all the ways to resolve their infertility and build a family, including living without children. Awareness: Because so many people suffer in silence, the public is unaware of both the prevalence of infertility and the barriers that patients face in seeking family building options. Increased access to care requires greater public awareness and engagement.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Access to care: Many people with health insurance do not have coverage for the infertility treatment plan that their doctor recommends. The best way to increase access to case is to increase insurance, either by adding coverage in plans offered by employers, or through legally mandated coverage of infertility diagnosis and treatment. Further, it is important that we work to prevent any laws that would negatively affect someone’s ability to build their family.
Support: RESOLVE would like everyone who needs support to have access to it, either through an in-person or online support group.
Education: RESOLVE aims to provide an up-to-date, unbiased online resource of the latest information about all family building options.
Awareness: All those dealing with infertility should know that they are not alone. In additional, we seek to build awareness among friends and family of those affected, elected officials, and the general public, so that they can be part of the support system that patients need, and they can positively affect access to care.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Access to care: RESOLVE assists individuals in asking their employers to add infertility benefits to their existing health insurance programs. RESOLVE monitors and responds to state and federal legislation, activating grassroots advocates and working with experts to educate and inform legislators
Support: RESOLVE has nearly 300 peer and professionally led support groups in 47 states plus DC. We also have an online support community with more than 50,000 members for those who prefer an online environment or are without an in-person support group in their area.
Education: RESOLVE’s website, resolve.org, has the latest information regarding causes of and treatments for infertility, all family building options, resources for those building their families, and access to support.
Awareness: Through National Infertility Awareness Week®, Walks of Hope, social media campaigns, and Federal and State Advocacy Days, RESOLVE builds awareness of the prevalence of infertility, the support needed for those on their infertility journey, and the importance of access to all family building options.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Access to care: RESOLVE has a long history of success in contributing to the positive outcome of legislation, relying on an army of grassroots advocates and a reputation as an expert on infertility. RESOLVE has a “Coverage at Work” toolkit of information and resources for employers and employees, helping them navigate the decision to add infertility benefits to their existing health insurance plans.
Support: RESOLVE has hundred of experienced volunteer peer led support group hosts and a robust training program for new hosts. Our Support Group Oversight Committee is made up of highly respected industry professionals. We’ve partnered with Inspire, a leader in building safe and secure online health communities, for our online support community.
Education: Our existing website, resolve.org, is packed with useful information. Our relationship with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and other experts in the industry give us access to the latest information.
Awareness: National Infertility Awareness Week, founded by RESOLVE in 1989, became a federally recognized health observance in 2010. We have executed nearly 100 successful Walks of Hope in communities around the U.S. We have 46,000 Facebook followers, 15,000 Twitter followers, and 10,000 Instagram followers. Federal Advocacy Day started in 2005, and in 2019 we welcomed 240 advocates from 30 states to talk to Members of Congress. We hosted state advocacy days in New York, Minnesota, and California in 2019.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Access to care: RESOLVE was a key member of a coalition that was responsible for the VA offering IVF and adoption assistance to veterans with a service-related injury. In 2017, four states saw improved access to family building options. 2018 brought unprecedented legislative activity, including a comprehensive infertility insurance state mandate, and new laws authorizing gestational carrier surrogacy, covering fertility preservation for cancer patients, and helping close the insurance gap for medically induced infertility. In 2019, we will create model legislation to help legislators introduce family building bills in their states. We will also introduce a State Advocacy Toolkit to help patients and professional advocate for better access to care in their states. We have expanded our staff to become more proactive in recruiting grassroots advocates, and to support the Coverage at Work program.
Support: 27 new support groups were added in 2018 and we continue to offer new groups in 2019.
Education: 80,000 people visit resolve.org monthly. We are recognized by infertility professionals as an important source of information for their patients as evidenced by link on most clinics’ resource pages. RESOLVE was invited to participate in ASRM’s Patient Education Project.
Awareness: National Infertility Awareness Week started as a week only recognized by RESOLVE and the community of professionals serving the community. Today, major tv networks, publications and celebrities recognize National Infertility Awareness Week through content, news segments and social media campaigns.
