Programs and results
What we aim to solve
"FP Assistance’s mission is to reduce hunger and obesity among children in Texas and to be a leader in nutrition education. Understanding that there is a clear link between childhood hunger, childhood obesity, and poverty, we work with groups which interact with and care for low-income children the most, child care centers and after-school programs (sites). FP Assistance sponsors these sites on the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Through the CACFP, FP Assistance" Provides financial assistance to non-for-profit and low-income child care and after school sites in the State of Texas. Trains the staff and children about NUTRITION and the connection between childhood hunger, childhood obesity and poverty. Monitors the sites to ensure the federal funds are being used on allowable expenses.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We have 3 great initiatives.
1. Designer Handbag Bingo- Bingo helps to benefit low income children in the Texas area. A fun filled night playing bingo for a chance to win designer handbags and great raffle prizes! All proceeds directly support our mission to feed low- income children of Texas
2. The Garden Project- Our goal at FPA is for all our sites to participate in growing fresh fruits and vegetables. As well as becoming knowledgeable of the gardening experience. Our hope is that the children will begin to grow these foods at home!
3. The Backpack Program - Providing daycare's feed their students over the weekend. Studies have shown that these children (low income) have little to no support over the weekend. Their resources stop on Friday evenings, leaving these children to fend for themselves. When returning to school, these children are hungry or have eaten little to none.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Community outreach is a huge part of our connection and communication. When our site advocates visit each school, they pass along the information for all of our programs. Once the school receives the information, they will either call the coordinator or vice versa. e also have a growing presence on social media. We use that platform to reach the community and schools.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our only goal is to continue to educate and feed low income children of Texas. We want these children to understand healthy eating choices, where their food comes from and having nutritious options to eat over the weekend.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have started 15 gardens this year and have received products and goods for our upcoming Backpack drive.
