Victims' Resource Center
The Victims’ Resource Center provides free, confidential services to victims experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault, their children, and their family members.
How We Do It:
Hotline: Our 24-hour hotline is accessible to victims 7 days a week, 365 days a year by calling 888-822-6325.
Crisis Counseling: A crisis counselor is available 24 hours a day to provide support, options and assistance.
Emergency Room Accompaniment: Trained advocates are available to support a victim through all hospital procedures necessary due to domestic violence injuries or sexual assault.
Legal Advocacy: Victims are assisted in understanding their legal rights and options, and may request accompaniment to all court-related proceedings.
Emergency Shelter: Thirty days of temporary, emergency shelter may be provided to victims of domestic violence and their children. This is the only shelter of its kind in McKean County.
Support Groups: Facilitated by trained advocates, support groups provide emotional support from peers who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual abuse.
Community Prevention Education/Primary Prevention: Training is provided to community groups and school groups which is designed to increase awareness, and facilitate prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault issues.
Outreach Services: Victims may meet with an advocate in her/his community. Travel to our office in Bradford is not necessary.
Housing and Employment Services
The YWCA’s Housing and Employment Services offers safe and secure emergency housing to intact families, single parents and their children, and single individuals who have nowhere else to stay.
Shelter: Our emergency shelter provides a family atmosphere while residents work with program staff to find permanent housing.
Case Management: Program staff assist individuals with
obtaining safe, affordable, and permanent housing
job searches, resume preparation, employment readiness
education opportunities, including GED classes and applying for vocational training and/or post-secondary education learning how to budget and skills of daily living
applying for social security benefits financial literacy
Case management services are available to residents and non-residents alike.
Street Outreach: Staff identify and engage individuals who are literally homeless (living in a place not meant for human habitation) and provide case management services to end their periods of homelessness.
Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities Program
The Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities Program empowers individuals with serious mental health and/or developmental disabilities to develop skills and coping techniques to foster recovery and achieve the maximum level of independence at which they can successfully function.
Medication Monitoring: Individuals are supported to acquire necessary skills to manage medications and control symptoms that would otherwise put them at risk for inpatient care or restrictive living arrangements.
Supported Living Services: In a holistic collaboration with other providers, services include (but are not limited to) budgeting and shopping assistance, nutrition education, and household maintenance support and life skills assistance.
