What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

We aim to raise funds for individuals with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities. These funds are raised through donations, sponsorships and ticket sales to our events. We stage a 10-day event each July that is highlighted by a vintage race through a city park. We have expanded our events outside July and raise funds throughout the year. Other needs include recruiting volunteers to stage and staff our event. Volunteers are the key ingredient to our success and longevity. We have one full-time staff person and over 1,000 volunteers. It is a challenge to add and train new volunteers each year.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is quite a unique vintage racing event. With 10 days of races, car shows and parties it is one of our country’s largest vintage races, but it’s the only one run through actual city streets – the way sports car racing began in the 1940s and 1950s.

We are proud to host one of western Pennsylvania’s premier events, one whose mission is to celebrate and honor our founding auto enthusiasts while simultaneously using this venue to benefit charity. Funds raised help to provide residential care, treatment and support for autistic and intellectual/developmental disabled individuals in western Pennsylvania.

The PVGP is synonymous with Schenley Park and racing through the beautiful park setting. Vintage racing at Schenley Park is the culmination of a 10-day Race Week highlighted by Historic Races at Pitt Race, numerous car shows, cruises, and a Blacktie Gala!

We want to thank everyone who makes this event possible; the drivers who share their appreciation of vintage motorsports, the army of volunteers who work all year to make the races and shows run successfully, and the cooperation of our city government to stage this world-class event throughout Pittsburgh.

Our mission is to raise funds for individuals with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities by staging automotive events. The 2020 funds were channeled to our Charity Partners at the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Merakey Allegheny Valley School. Both organizations use these funds locally to benefit individuals in the western Pennsylvania area.

Every event we stage must have a mechanism to raise funds for our charities. This has been the case since our founding in 1983. We have raised $5.9 million to date including $60,000 in 2020 when our Race Week events were canceled due to the pandemic.
