What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Organization Overview
Brew House Arts is an art center that has been a home to experimental arts programs and comprehensive support for artists for over 30 years. Founded in the early 1990s by a community of artists who began living and working together at the then abandoned Duquesne Brewery site, the Brew House is now home to a well loved multi-use facility, complete with a public gallery space, flexible artist studios, two residency programs, and mixed income live-work units for artists all under one roof.
Distillery Artist Residency
Distillery is a yearlong studio residency program for seven emerging artists that focuses on a rigorous studio practice, creation of new work, business development, mentorship, and supportive community connections. The program inspires participants to embrace new challenges, mediums, and processes in their work and to learn with their mentors and each other. In addition to subsidized studios, monthly group critiques, and workshops taught by experts in their fields, each cohort culminates in a group exhibition in the Brew House Gallery of work created while in residence. Over 100 artists have been part of a cohort with many others acting as mentors and teachers. Formal arts education is never a requirement for entry, scholarships are available, and BHA utilizes a diverse range of industry professionals and past participants to thoughtfully form each unique cohort.
