Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

One set of projects involves the Frente Autentico del Trabajo (FAT), a democratic federation of Mexican workers, coops, and community organizations. The UE-FAT relationship has resulted in the creation of three workers' centers (Centro de Educacion y Taller Laboral, A.C., or CETLAC) in Cd. Juarez, Monterrey and Chihuahua. Our work also contains a strong educational component which has included a series of worker to worker delegations, cultural projects, as well as an electronic newsletter which reports labor and related news from Mexico. There have also been intensive trainings with a strong emphasis on leadership development, especially to ensure full, meaningful participation by women.

We also have an active campaign in North Carolina to repeal North Carolina General Statute §95-98 which denies public sector workers the right to collectively bargain with their employer. Our innovative strategy of creative lawyering, making use of international law and grassroots organizing is resulting in serious gains.
