Mission

Construction Junction (CJ) promotes conservation through the reuse of building materials, a critical part of a healthy circular economy. We have a deconstruction team who salvage architectural and building materials, we run a free pickup service to collect donated materials, and we sell donated items and surplus materials to the public. We have partnerships with other nonprofits to benefit the community as well as meet our mission statement. For example, Goodwill of SW PA has a job training program for people with barriers to employment at Construction Junction, which helps us prepare donated materials for sale. We have around 30 employees at our large store and warehouse in Pittsburgh's east end.

Diversion of Used Building Materials

We offer the public three convenient and free options to choose Construction Junction rather than the landfill when dealing with building materials generated from renovation or demolition. We have a pick up service operating five days a week, a drop off service at the store which is open seven days a week, and a three person deconstruction crew that will remove items from your commercial or residential renovation project prior to demolition. Donations are tax deductible within the extent allowed by law.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Construction Junction operates a nonprofit retail warehouse open to the public seven days a week year round. Although we always have a very eclectic inventory on hand, our specialty is used and surplus building materials that we sell for significantly less than those items typically cost new. By doing so we're diverting usable goods from area landfills and helping to make home renovation more affordable. Our customers travel from all over the tri-state area to find great bargains, one of a kind items, architectural salvage, supplies for art projects and inspiration to fulfill creative desires.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Construction Junction partners with a variety of nonprofit and for profit recyclers. We host the City of Pittsburgh most active recycling drop off site; we have formed partnerships to enable the public to drop off their e-waste, florescent lights, ballasts, old refrigerators, appliances and scrap metals. Our subtenants offer opportunities for the public to reuse bicycles, art and craft supplies and apple computers.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Construction Junction partners with several organizations, such as Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, to offer job training programs. These programs support our local community and help individuals to learn new skills that will lead them to better job opportunities.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Construction Junction offers a donation program. We 're-give' items that were donated to us to other nonprofits in need at no cost to them. The ReGives application can be found on our website and we will work with applicants to help find the things they may need. In 2012 we donated over $20,000 in materials to more than 60 organizations.
