Program Overview and Background
YouthWorks, Inc. was established in 1994 as a result of a regional planning effort known as the Working Together Consortium. In 1999, YouthWorks incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and established a mission to build a community solution to help young people whose potential might otherwise be overlooked to pursue employment and career development opportunities. Today, YWs has served more than 20,000 youth, of which many have obtained permanent full-time employment and gone onto postsecondary education and successful careers.
From short-term training to year-round employment and career exploration, YouthWorks fulfills its mission in four significant areas of service to our region’s young people: , , , and .
Participants must live within the City of Pittsburgh and/or Allegheny County, be between the ages of 14 and 25, and live at or below 185% of poverty guidelines. YWs serves both in- and out-of-school youth. Approximately 50% are male and 50% female, 75% African American, 20% Caucasian, and 5% other.
