What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Chasing the Dragon

The FBI, in partnership with the DEA, created a short documentary focusing on the crisis of prescription drug and opioid abuse. The film, Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict outlines the dangerous cycle of opioid and prescription drug abuse—how the problem starts, how the addiction takes hold, and how that addiction damages one’s life and body. Middle and high school students and all ages above are the target audience for this video and the curriculum/facilitated discussion that accompanies it.

FBINewarkCAAA along with FBI Newark Division, Bergen Performing Arts Center, and Lakeland Bank collaborated to present a virtual and in person program for schools to educate students on the dangerous cycle of opioid and prescription drug abuse.

Cybercrime is a general term describing criminal activities carried out using a computer, network, or another set of digital devices. Consider cyber crime the umbrella over the vast range of illegal activities cyber criminals commit. These include hacking, phishing, identity theft, data breaches, ransomware, and malware attacks, among many others.

The FBI is the lead federal agency for investigating cyber attacks and intrusions. They collect and share intelligence and engage with victims while working to unmask those committing malicious cyber activities, wherever they are.

If you believe you are a victim or a witness of online or internet-enabled crime, report it to the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip at tips.fbi.gov.

FBINewarkCAAA organizes outreach events to educate the community, support our local field office, and strengthen relationships with law enforcement and community partners to eliminate cyber security risks.

Elder fraud is simply financial fraud that targets any individual, in the United States over the age of 60 years old. It could be romance, technology or any other scam whose goal is to financially exploit senior citizens. The FBI has raised the flag on the precipitous rise in elder fraud scams in recent years. According to the 2021 Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) report, there were over 92,000 victims who lost $1.7 billion to elder fraud scams. The losses were a 74 percent increase over 2020’s.

FBINewarkCAAA organizes outreach events to educate the community, support our local field office, and strengthen relationships with law enforcement and community partners to prevent elder fraud. FBI representative provides a detailed explanation of what Elder fraud is and how to recognize and report it.
