Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To provide welcoming and embracing hospitality to those whose life paths may have been defined at birth or those who gradually fell into the situation we are in now.
I truly see God at work in our Ministry. We had a prostitute, young lady on the streets since she was 13. Said to our Executive Director, I want to get into recovery. After she came out, the expression on her face/her countenance was transformed from stress to peace. She backslid, but pulled herself out. That is God at work.
There are 70+ agencies in Kansas City doing what we do. We are blessed to have up to 100+ per day use our services and interact with our team.
When a guest commits to enter recovery, their facial countenance changes from one of fear, desperation, anxiety and self doubt. The serenity on their face once they have embraced their recovery treatment, is noticeable, both in their face and their demeanor - truly Jesus' hand at work
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Get as many people into treatment and recovery as we can. We are limited as our funds are limited and we don't have transitional housing. That is in our plan.
Also, our goal is to be interactive with our guests. We try to know names and stories, where possible. That allows us to maintain an interaction with our guest that is not viable if we were transactional only.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We operate in Mount Washington Missionary Baptist Church located on the East side of Kansas City in Jackson County, MO.
Our neighborhood is made up of drug and vacant houses, prostitution is rampant as are street drug deals.
As a blessing to us, our Ministry has been relatively free of any adversarial or threatening behavior. Should a situation arise, the Ministry gets shut down immediately by our team or by our guests.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our Ministry has grown. We are in our third location in as many years.
Our Executive Director is a hands on, passionate leader who came from the streets and knows the stories.
Our lead Volunteer is an angel making sure all are fed, clothed and loved.
Our volunteer numbers from supporting Churches are growing.
We have a hand in hand relationship with the Pastor of Mount Washington. He is an advocate of taking care of the homeless
