What we aim to solve
Many Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) patients are adviced to merely take medication for the rest of their lives and learn to live with their A-Fib. But A-Fib can be cured! Patients need to education themselves on the various treatment options, find encouragement and hope from other patients and learn to be their own best patient advocate in order to make informed decisions about their treatment plan.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Atrial Fibrillation: Resources for Patients website, A-Fib.com
Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm) seen by physicians. It is one of the most under-treated heart rhythm disorders in America and accounts for about one-third of hospital admissions.
Since 2002, A-Fib.com has been the layman’s unbiased guide to current A-Fib treatments and cures. Through information, education and the latest research developments in Atrial Fibrillation combined with encouragement and hope, we empower A-Fib patients (and their families) to find their A-Fib cure or best outcome.
Published by a former A-Fib patient, Steve S. Ryan, PhD, who was cured in 1998.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to help patients and their families look beyond the common drug therapies that 'manage' Atrial Fibrillation but do not cure it. We inspire and educate patients to not settle for a lifetime on medication. We empower patients to see their A-Fib cure (or best outcome!
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We will continue to:
- research and publish unbiased information on current and emerging Atrial Fibrillation treatments―all written in plain language for patients and their families.
- Educate, inspire and empower A-Fib patients to seek their cure.
Specific efforts include:
- Increase visitors and traffic to our website, A-Fib.com
- Encourage reader donations and earn passive income (via Amazon Associates commissions) to cover monthly publishing costs of A-Fib.com
- Remain FREE of third-party advertising (I.e. Google ads, etc.) that would clutter and disrupt our content and flow of our web pages
- Grow our subscribers list of our A-Fib Alerts monthly newsletter
- Complete and publish the 2nd edition of "Beat Your A-Fib: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Cure" by Steve S. Ryan, PhD
- Add more videos to our YouTube channel 'A-Fib Can be Cured!'
- Social media posting to our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn pages and Pinterest boards
- Presentations to patient and doctor groups
- Attend medical conferences, i.e., annual AF Symposium, to learn from the world's leading cardiologists researching and treating Atrial Fibrillation.
- Add A-Fib.com Advisory Board members when appropriate
- Grow our one-to-one consultation service with A-Fib patients seeking their cure (The A-Fib Coach).
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our greatest assets:
- Steve S. Ryan, PhD: research, distillation and writing skills; empathy and compassion with fellow patients; Industry contacts and reputation as A-Fib patient advocate and educator;
- Patti J. Ryan: editor, researcher and writer, graphic designer and photographer; book designer and self-publisher; and WordPress webmaster;
- Our A-Fib.com Advisory Board of world-class cardiac electrophysiologists (EP) and surgeons researching and treating A-Fib patients;
- Our A-Fib Support Volunteers who offer one-to-one support to other A-Fib patients.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Have accomplished:
• Yearly over 400,000 readers visit A-Fib.com.
• A-Fib.com has received HON-Code Certification as a trustworthy healthcare site since 2009 by Health On the Net Foundation.
• Our A-Fib Alerts monthly newsletter subscriptions continue to grow (from 300 in 2012 to 1500 in 2018).
• A-Fib.com has been recognized as a "Best Atrial Fibrillation Blog" yearly in since 2014 by Healthline.com.
• A-Fib, Inc. and Steve S. Ryan, PhD have received ten book publishing industry awards for Beat Your A-Fib.
• Financials toward operating costs: Through joining the Amazon Associate program a few years ago, we earn a small, passive income when readers use our portal link (http://tinyurl.com/Shop-Amazon-for-A-Fib) to shop at Amazon.com (at no extra cost to the buyer)
Have not accomplished:
• We have only attracted a few guest writers in our effort to offer a variety of opinions and points-of-views to our own.
• A-Fib.com is not yet a financially self-sustaining website. Since 2002, Patti and Steve Ryan have personally published the website with an occasional reader donation and small income through the Amazon Associates program.
• A-Fib.com Spreadshirt.com shop (http://462663.spreadshirt.com) with A-Fib-related graphic products has yet to develop as another source of passive income
• Salaries: We have been unable to generate enough passive income to pay ourselves salaries for our writing and publishing efforts, or to hire freelance writer/research help.
