What we aim to solve
Harmony CDC provides relief, development and revitalization so that we can alleviate all facets of poverty (spiritual, emotional, financial, economic) in the communities we serve. Our mission is to strengthen families and revitalize neighborhoods which is accomplished through an integrated service delivery model designed to achieve self-sufficiency, whole families and thriving communities locally and globally.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Food Pantry
The Harmony CDC's Client-Choice Food Pantry provides healthy, nutritionally balanced and quality food to individuals and families in need. Our focus is to ensure that people are provided meals needed and nutritional facts for ongoing support. Our Food Pantry currently serves and average of 250 families per month and continues to be a source of outreach for the communities served. Clients receive an average of 25 pounds of food per person which equates to five days of food for an average person, per the guidelines provided by North Texas Food Bank.
Housing Program
The Harmony Self-Sufficiency & Referral program is designed to assist low-income families to move to economic independence so they need no or limited access to any governmental or community assistance. The program goal is to increase the number of participants who pursue and are prepared to secure employment by providing the necessary support and guidance needed through mentors and case management.
Counseling Center
Christian Counseling is a dynamic, expanding, and multidisciplinary field of practice. Christ is the bridge by which Christian Counseling integrates both spiritual ministry and professional mental practice. Since all truth is from God, Christian counseling facilitates understanding and integration between the empirical truths of general revelation and the truth of God’s special revelation in Christ. Christian counselors are confessing Christian professionals dedicated to serve others in godly ways. At its best, Christian Counseling integrates the best theory and proven methods of the mental health professions with biblical truths and spiritual practices to produce “Christ-like” behavior and contentment in the lives of the people served.
The Harmony Counseling Center is a biblically based, Christian counseling center. Our counselor’s, supervised by our Director of Counseling, Dr. Brenda Richardson-Rowe, LPC-S,

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Harmony Community Development Corporation (Harmony CDC) was organized in 2001 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit to stimulate the development of affordable housing, create business ownership and increase social services and provide other charitable and educational services in our community. Since the re-defining of Harmony CDC in 2007, the organization has made remarkable strides toward impacting the community and enriching the organization's social services. While serving more than 9,000 individuals annually, Harmony CDC has committed 20 years to the Southern Sector of Dallas, Texas. Harmony CDC is taking new steps to further live out its mission of “strengthening families and revitalizing neighborhoods.”
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Harmony Community Development Corporation (Harmony) has become a beacon of hope for many in the community as they seek to navigate the turbulent and ever-changing times brought on by the impact of the global health pandemic, COVID-19. Disenfranchised communities of need prior to the pandemic have been hit hard, resulting in loss of jobs, income, and the threat of loss of home. However, the need is not just prevalent in disenfranchised communities, but middle-class and upper-middle-class families have been affected as well with an increase in unemployment. According to the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas 2036, Dallas County had approximately 260k jobless claims filed since March 2020. The loss in jobs, reduction of work hours, and the impact on both small and large businesses have had unilateral devastation to many families – real people have suffered.
This time, however, is where Harmony’s light has shined the most. From January 2020 to August, Harmony served approximately 13,000 individuals by providing housing assistance to keep people in their homes, the food so families would not go hungry, and counseling services to help people cope during a time where every day brings increasingly new challenges. Of those helped, 61% were from Oak Cliff, South Dallas, and portions of Pleasant Grove areas within the city, all being areas with high percentages of people of color. According to the City of Dallas’ Planning and Urban Design in 2019, each of these areas has higher rates of low-to median income ratios in comparison to the rest of the city of Dallas. Meaning these neighborhoods were on the frontlines of poverty and some of the most disenfranchised before COVID-19, but now are the most disproportionately impacted. Beyond the city of Dallas, Harmony also serves Cedar Hill, Duncanville, DeSoto, and Lancaster.
