Supporting Families in the NICU

Goshen, NY   |  www.haileyshopefoundation.org

Mission

Our mission is to support families with babies hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the New York area by providing programs and resources to empower parents and help their babies thrive. Supporting the emotional, financial and educational needs of families and helping NICUs create a more 'family-centered care' environment, we are inspiring hope, building parental confidence to cope and giving NICU babies a greater fighting chance.

Notes from the nonprofit

HHF was established in December 2007 by former NICU parents and grandparents to fill the tremendous void in practical support for families during their critical beginnings in the NICU. Working together with NICU families and medical staff, we have created a unique support system to comfort, empower and support these families and their NICU babies in ways they need it the most during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Financial Support Program (FSP)

Our Financial Support Program helps families in need with expenses incurred during their baby’s NICU hospitalization and transition home. It provides NICU families with overnight lodging close to the hospital, transportation, meals, hospital parking, essential baby supplies, and more. Collaborating with the NICU social worker and families, we strive to understand the families' needs and customize support packages for them. The goal is to alleviate financial burdens economically disadvantaged families face with long NICU stays and frequent hospital visits so they can have more opportunities to be with their babies and share more quality time together in the NICU to help them get better.

Our FSP also provides grants to NICUs to help improve their quality of care and create a more comfortable and nurturing environment to engage families in their babies' care. Our NICU grants have funded breast feeding advocacy programs, CPR safety programs, a NICU resource room, special medical equipment and supplies and scrapbooking programs.

Population(s) Served
Families

To help ease the anxieties of transitioning home, we provide every family with a Welcome Home Care Package upon their baby's discharge from the NICU. Filled with essential baby supplies and important information, each package is designed to make going home a little bit easier.
