Mission

SWCCD stands out as a foundation dedicated to the eradication of Chronic Inflammatory Disease. We believe that nobody should have to live with Chronic Inflammatory Disease and so we are here to fight it! This includes vascular and autoimmune disease and even Cancer. Our current research approach is to define the microbiome in these disease state. Publications and pending publications implicate microorganisms as being the underlying cause. This is a different approach than most others.Through research and collaboration, we can unravel this mystery and help develop preventative and curative strategies.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The primary cause of death and suffering in Humans are attributable to chronic inflammatory processes. Our efforts are directed at mapping microbial communities in humans with emphasis on more complex organism such as fungi, protozoa, and algae. This is contrary to popular belief that the process is mediated by an inborn genetic error or a virus. Once these organisms are detected then therapeutic regimens and drug discovery can take place.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Prostate 2

To expand the initial study in Adenocarcinoma of the prostate
which implicates a particular organism found in all tissue samples.
This will assay for infection withDNA sequencing technology and additionally include a therapeutic arm in collaboration with a nationally recognized institution.

Population(s) Served

To map the microbiome in a larger sample of MS, ALS, and to add Parkinson's patients. Our first study implicated two organisms in a complex relationship. We will collaborate with an Institution to sample cerebrovascular vessels post-mortem for biofilm communities. In a subset of ALS patient we wish to engage in antimicrobial drug discovery against the microbe discovered in all ALS patients. (Publication pending )

Population(s) Served

To expand on our published findings that vascular plaque is a complex of living organisms. We would like to enlist multiple centers worldwide for a more global view of these populations before pursuing a drug discovery program. The global mapping of the biofilm will be from coronary plaque using fresh cadaveric or recent atherectomy samples. We wish to participate with institutions internationally.
In addition we would like to re-characterize the make-up of coronary plaque.

Population(s) Served

Over 30% of Gulf War I veterans now have been diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. Our work indicates that it is due to a common microbe found in the desert soils of the Mideast. We would include serial blood sampling and pulmonary sampling . Intervention drug protocol has been established to test and treat patients and to follow serially for 12-18 months. This is both a diagnostic and intervention study discussed with the VA and the Los Alamos National Research Laboratories. This is a not a viral approach which has been the major focus in the past.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

SWCCD Goals
1. Fund sequencing of microbiomes with emphasis on fungi, protozoans and algae in chronic disease states.
2. Fund the develop treatment strategies using this knowledge.
3. Publish these findings.
4. Fund the development new medications and processes to eliminate these microbes.
5. Fund the discovery of human genomic weakness in host defense against these microbes which will lead to specific therapy.

Core strategies:

1. The use of newly developed sequencing (eukaryotic) technologies for mapping purpose.
2. Partner with other Institutions for collaborative projects.
3. Recruit personnel to help with fundraising and scientific perpetuation of these endeavors.
4. Contract with others to make this happen.

Our mostly volunteer staff have already helped to initiate many of these studies. This includes those with legal, scientific, and medical backgrounds.

SWCCD has contributed to a number of projects in the last years. The publications listed on the web-site are an indication of progress.
