What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goals are to serve the most vulnerable members of the communities in which we work. We work to embrace and equip HIV+ parents to manage their disease so they can live long, healthy lives and have all the resources they need to raise and educate their children.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Untold has created an innovative model of care that engages local leaders, churches, and communities in caring for families affected by HIV/AIDS. We believe in a holistic model of care that addresses complex needs— body + soul. Untold operates centers in multiple communities throughout Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda and each center is located within a local church. Each center has two counselors who guide a class of 80 clients at a time through a nine-month program. Throughout the program these clients experience transformation in five key areas; physical, emotional, social, economic, and spiritual. Learn more here: http://www.untold.org/solution-page/
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Untold operates each center from within a local Kenyan, Ugandan, or Tanzanian church. We hire two counselors- one health and one spiritual- to guide each group of HIV+ clients through our nine-month program. We aggregate existing services so that our clients can access them within the local church. Having access to nutrition, medication, spiritual support, education, and employment resources helps clients break the cycle of poverty and disease.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date we have graduated 34,607 clients from our program. Those 34,607 clients represent 108,115 dependent children who are no longer at risk of being orphaned.
We have seen rapid growth in the past years and plan to expand to South Africa in the coming years.
