What we aim to solve
LWR has researched and studied various models and methods at identifying the patients with facial deformities in the unreached areas of India and the findings are shocking. For a person to be fully integrated into society with self-esteem and confidence, one must go beyond simply correcting the facial structure and help with speech and occupational therapy. A recent study in rural India about cleft afflicted families, found: •92% cannot afford the cost of surgery •30% are not aware this can be corrected •Hospitals are not approachable Parents attribute the facial deformity to “Gods will” and to the sins committed in the past life. Babies with facial deformities are considered cursed and live in social isolation and humiliation. Patients with uncorrected conditions lose self-confidence and self-esteem and have developmental delays. Many of these children are raised as “organ donors” by “organ harvesters/traffickers” who traffick human organs for obscene profits.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Until the World is Cleft Free
The International Craniofacial Institute reports that one in 700 children worldwide are born with a cleft lip or palate. Each year about 35-40,000 babies are born with clefts in India, while one in thousand babies on an average are born in Africa with the same birth defect. Most of these babies do not receive the surgeries they need, due to poverty, they are condemned to suffer their whole life in isolation and shame. There are over 1 million cases of untreated clefts in India; not to mention millions of others who need further surgeries to correct the deformities. Zimbabwe has a 5-year backlog of cleft surgeries due to lack of craniofacial surgeons.
In unreached poverty stricken areas where education, resources and information is scarce, children with craniofacial deformities are left to live a life of humiliation and reproach. Untold numbers of afflicted girls are considered cursed and are killed at birth or abandoned. Many of these children are raised as “organ donors” by “organ harvesters/traffickers” who traffick human organs for obscene profits.
Love Without Reason motto to Work Until the World is Cleft-Free has guided our organizations mission to provide cost-free surgeries to those in impoverished countries around the world.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
I. Africa on our mind: LWR entered Africa in 2017 and conducted a medical mission to help 60 children with cleft surgeries in 6 days. After successful completion of that project, LWR has completed a total of 6 missions to Africa and conducted nearly 300 surgeries in this short period. We hope to conduct similar medical missions in 7 African nations by 2023. Nations under consideration are: Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, and Ethiopia.
II. LWR has initiated dialogs with several state governments of India to offer cost-free craniofacial surgeries for the poor across the country of India. Love Without Reason intends to reach the under privileged population of 10 States in India by 2023.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
LWR has initiated several strategic partnerships across the continent of Africa to help children with clefts and those who are trapped in human trafficking networks. Currently the organization has a network of volunteers and corporate partners that help us in getting the word out to the masses. LWR has also tied up with several hospitals in the target countries to provide cost free surgeries.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
In Africa, LWR has a team of over 300 volunteers that help provide the much needed services to our patient population. LWR also has extensive experiences in Medical Missions and anti human trafficking initiatives. Our strength is in our people and partnerships.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
