Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Young Women's Design and Building Institute
The Young Women’s Design and Building Institute is an immersive week-long design/build experience for girls ages 13-17. The program brings together diverse cohorts of teen girls to design and build a real-world project for a local nonprofit client over the course of just five days. Previous projects have included furniture for a local women’s shelter, sandboxes and wind sculptures for local preschools, and more. As part of this program, girls will learn and hone creative and vocational STEM skills, from carpentry and welding to applied math, screen printing, and architectural drafting.

WEEK-LONG SUMMER CAMP 2020
BUILDER BOOTCAMP (9-13 YEAR OLDS)
Over a week-long “bootcamp for builders” experience, girls will design and build projects to take home as well as projects responding to real-world challenges. Along the way, girls will learn skills in carpentry, graphic design, metalwork, collaboration, and teamwork. The program challenges girls to use power tools and work together to build projects for a local nonprofit client.
Protest + Print
This fall, our Protest + Print class will use hand-drawing, screenprinting, and/or wheat-pasting methods to design and install a large-scale activist art project in our neighborhood. Girls will work together to identify a common theme, design graphics individually and collectively, and install work using industry-standard printmaking media. Instructors will help lead group and individual conversations about pressing issues that impact us, and help translate this conversation, hope, anger, and curiosity into a large-scale work in public space.
After-School Welding and Carpentry
Welding: Let’s fuse metal and make sparks fly! In this 8-week course, girls will experiment with MIG welding and related steel work (cutting, filing, finishing), practice multiple types of welds, and work on welded steel projects to take home and use for years to come!
Carpentry: Girl power and power tools! In this wood class, girls will learn proper technique and practice useful applications of the most common power tools. From drills and drivers to chop saws, jigsaws, sanders, measurement and layout devices, and more, we will use power tools to build personal projects to take home.
