Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Builders' goal is to ensure that Coney Island Prep has the resources needed so that every scholar will graduate from Coney Island Prep prepared to succeed in the college and career of his or her choice.

To ensure that scholars are best prepared to succeed in college and career, in addition to our strong academic culture, Coney Island Prep is introducing this year the College & Career Success Initiative. This initiative is one example of a program that is made possible in part by Coney Island Prep Builders. Over the next two years, we will grow our college readiness staff to a team of six - including a Dean of College, two college counselors, two college readiness teachers, and an alumni counselor. They will plan and implement a range of college and career programming that will support scholars in their pursuit of a college degree and successful career.

Since its establishment in 2008, Coney Island Prep Builders has been leveraging resources in support of Coney Island Prep's mission and capacity to achieve this mission. Through a combination of Builders support and government funding at the school level, Coney Island Prep has been able to successfully grow its programming and staff as our schools expand, with student achievement data supporting the effectiveness of these academic investments. In hiring a full time External Affairs Manager, who sits on the Coney Island Prep staff and oversees fundraising efforts for the school and Builders, we also expanded our fundraising and donor relations capabilities for the long-term financial health of both organizations.

Coney Island Prep's first class of scholars will graduate in summer 2017, meaning that we do not yet have data against our mission. However, the academic data cited in the Impact Statement is a promising indicator of future accomplishments. As a growing school, Coney Island Prep is also growing its academic program and staff, successfully adding a high school campus in 2013 and elementary school campus in 2014 to its flagship middle school. We are continuously improving our programming, curricula, and professional development to ensure that our staff is supported to deliver the highest quality education to each scholar. Builders has been successful in meeting and anticipating the needs of our schools for additional resources for that purpose. Over the coming years, Builders will work to raise additional funds as we expand our college and career programming.
