Mission

Both Hands mission is to fulfill James 1:27 by serving orphans, widows, and Christian adoptive families. Based in Nashville, TN, Both Hands helps adoptive families and volunteer groups organize service projects for widows while raising funds for adoptions and orphan-related causes. Similar to a 5k race, a family or group gathers a team of volunteers who commit to serving a widow in their community. The volunteers also send letters to raise sponsorship for their day of service with the funds raised going towards the family's adoption costs. All the while, the widow receives free help on their home. As of August 2023, over 1,250 Both Hands projects have been completed across 45 states. Those projects have raised $17.5 million for adoption costs, and counting! Learn more at BothHands.org

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The private adoption of a child here in the U.S. is expensive. In fact, studies show it's the #1 reason a family considering adoption doesn't move forward. Our goal is to eliminate the financial barrier to families wanting to adopt a child into a Christian home by guiding them through completing a Both Hands project. Adoptions currently cost anywhere from $25k-$50k or more, but our projects in 2021 and 2022 raised an average of $22,000 per adoptive family. This is the highest yielding adoption fundraising model out there based on our findings, so our goal is to reach even more families to make adoption more accessible to those looking to bring a child into a loving home.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Adoptive Family & Widow Projects

A private adoption of a child in the U.S. is expensive, typically ranging between $25k-$50k. Studies show the high cost is actually the #1 reason families who consider adoption aren't able to move forward. Our goal is to eliminate the financial barrier for families wanting to adopt while simultaneously serving widows with help around their homes.

Here's how a project works: A family gathers a team of volunteers and Both Hands coaches them through coordinate a service project fixing up a widow's home. The family and their team send letters to raise sponsorship for their day of service, similar to a 5k race. The funds raised support that family's adoption to and the widow receives free service on their home. Both Hands - One for the widow, one for the orphan.

Committed to fundraising support for its operating expenses through private donors, no funds raised by a family and their team are deducted for Both Hands' administrative costs.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to complete 100 Both Hands projects in 2023 and to raise $2 million for adoptions and orphan causes.

We're heavily focused on marketing and partnerships to raise further awareness of our model with families researching online and adoption agencies. We've also established a matching grant fund to encourage more families to work with our ministry to complete a project by receiving a matching grant towards their adoption once they meet all project requirements.
