What we aim to solve
Founded in 2008, Abortion Care Network (ACN) is the national association for independent community-based, abortion care providers and their allies. Independent abortion providers care for the majority of people seeking abortion in the U.S. – often serving individuals and families with the fewest resources and in the most rural parts of our nation. Together we work to ensure the rights of all people to experience respectful, dignified abortion care.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Uniting Our Voices
Uniting Our Voices (UOV) provides small-group trainings where independent abortion care providers learn media and messaging skills, build meaningful relationships within their training cohorts, and receive continued support and learning opportunities. By elevating the unique perspectives of independent abortion care providers at the local, state, and national levels, Uniting Our Voices increases public awareness and support for the work of Indies.
Keep Our Clinics
Indies clinics provide the majority of abortion care in the United States; yet most folks don't know they exist. The Keep Our Clinics campaign was designed to create national awareness and recognition for indie abortion providers while raising money for ACN's clinics. All funds raised through this campaign go to our clinic members.
Provider Resilience Initiative
ACN works with a cohort of volunteer social workers and healing practitioners to facilitate online and in clinic sessions for ACN clinic members to help staff manage the stress and challenges of working in abortion care. This program is intended to reduce burnout and increase support for staff working in abortion care.
Technical Assistance
ACN also offers 1:1 individualized support for clinics related to a wide variety of unique challenges that indie clinics face. From HR/operational support, financial management resources, needing to connect with network allies and many things in between, ACN is here to support the providers who make abortion care possible.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Abortion Care Network's unique role in the abortion care community is to support independent abortion care providers.
To do so, the organization needs to engage and mobilize allies, as well as other audiences
and constituents, including: media and policy makers, funders, and reproductive rights, health and justice advocates.
People who need to access to dignified and exceptional care will be the ultimate beneficiaries of Abortion Care Network's efforts to support their local independent abortion care providers.
These organization objectives guide out work:
1. Eliminate the obstacles that prevent independent abortion care providers from being able to provide
exceptional care.
2. Support independent abortion care providers to provide the most exceptional care possible.
3. Ensure diversity within the abortion care provider community to safeguard sustainability and to be able to address the various and unique needs of the people and families who seek abortion care.
4. Increase understanding of the existence of, the need for, and the unique challenges faced by independent abortion care providers.
5. Ensure allies see their role in helping Abortion Care Network to achieve its mission and goals.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Strengthen the organization's ability to serve as an effective collective voice for independent abortion care providers.
2. Provide guidance, supports and professional development resources to our members.
3. Increase the engagement of individuals and allies in support of independent abortion care providers.
4. Build formal and informal partnerships within the abortion care community to fill in program gaps.
5. Actively confront abortion stigma.

How we listen
Seeking feedback from people served makes programs more responsive and effective. Here’s how this organization is listening.
-
Who are the people you serve with your mission?
Independent abortion clinics throughout the U.S.
-
How is your organization using feedback from the people you serve?
To identify and remedy poor client service experiences, To identify bright spots and enhance positive service experiences, To make fundamental changes to our programs and/or operations, To inform the development of new programs/projects, To identify where we are less inclusive or equitable across demographic groups, To strengthen relationships with the people we serve, To understand people's needs and how we can help them achieve their goals
-
What significant change resulted from feedback?
Since independent clinics do not have the name recognition or infrastructure of larger institutions, they lack fundraising capability. Our members asked ACN to create a mechanism that could raise public funds for these clinics, and the Keep Our Clinics campaign was created to do just that. In the first 3 years of the campaign, we have raised and released $5 million dollars to independent abortion clinics throughout the U.S.
-
Which of the following feedback practices does your organization routinely carry out?
We collect feedback from the people we serve at least annually, We take steps to get feedback from marginalized or under-represented people, We aim to collect feedback from as many people we serve as possible, We take steps to ensure people feel comfortable being honest with us, We look for patterns in feedback based on demographics (e.g., race, age, gender, etc.), We look for patterns in feedback based on people’s interactions with us (e.g., site, frequency of service, etc.), We engage the people who provide feedback in looking for ways we can improve in response, We act on the feedback we receive, We tell the people who gave us feedback how we acted on their feedback, We ask the people who gave us feedback how well they think we responded
