What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education
RIPPLE Africa believes that education provides an important foundation essential to a community’s success. Subsequently, we are lending our support through the building of classrooms, much-needed resources such as desks and textbooks, teaching training, and much, much more.
Our commitment to improving the standard of education is demonstrated through the following programs:
Preschool Education (Support and oversight of eight preschools); Primary School Education (Providing assistance for five local primary schools); Secondary School Education (Construction and on-going support of Kapanda Community Day Secondary School); Teacher Housing (Construction of teacher housing to attract and retain teachers in our rural location); Community Library (Construction and oversight of Mwaya Community Library); and Adult Literacy (Facilitation of adult literacy classes).
Environment
Malawi is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with vital natural
resources being depleted rapidly. RIPPLE Africa’s goal is to assist communities in developing a sustainable
approach to preserving the environment for future generations through these projects: Changu Changu Moto Fuel Efficient Cookstoves (Project
supplying over 43,000 fuel-efficient cookstoves to date in order to improve negative health and
environmental implications resulting from use of a traditional open fire); Tree Planting Project (Project that has helped plant over 8 million trees
across three districts since 2006); Fruit Tree Project (Program focused on growing improved fruit trees which
produce a greater crop yield and have a stronger resistance to viruses in order to supplement
Malawian dietary deficiencies and provide income-generating opportunities); Sweet Potato Project (Initiative aimed at assisting farmers to grow new varieties of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes to improve local people’s nutrient-deficient diets); and Fish Conservation Project (Project with the goal of conserving and replenishing fish stocks in Lake Malawi).
Healthcare
Malawi has one of the highest number of patients per doctor of any country worldwise. Therefore, a focus on critical healthcare deficiencies is of utmost importance to RIPPLE Africa and is addressed through the following projects: Mwaya Community Dispensary (Construction and support of a local out-patient clinic and dispensary for medications); Disabilities and Rehabilitation Project (Partnership with existing government programs to extend services to those who are in need of treatment, rehabilitation, and support); and Family Planning and Sexual Health Project (Program working with local schools and community groups to highlight the issues arising from having large families and the subsequent impact on Malawi and individual families).
